How long does a blocked nose last after septoplasty?

Usually eases after 2–3 weeks

Once the initial swelling has settled after 2–3 weeks, the blocked nose usually eases off gradually as well. Some people may, however, have symptoms for up to three months, as the nose is still slightly swollen. If the symptoms have not passed after three months, you should contact your surgeon to find out the cause and decide on suitable further treatment.

Increased mucus production

When a deviated septum is operated on, the mucous membranes in the nose are stimulated, which can lead to a temporary overproduction of mucus while the tissues heal. To manage the increased mucus production you can use a saline spray, unless your surgeon recommends otherwise. It usually resolves on its own within a few weeks to a couple of months.
