2. Saline implants are often a cheaper option, but do not give the same result as silicone implants.

General anaesthetic/anaesthesia

There are two main anaesthetic options used during the procedure:

• General anaesthetic: Usually more expensive, as it requires the presence of an anaesthetist and involves higher facility costs. A general anaesthetic is used when the patient is completely unconscious during the operation.
• Local anaesthetic: Usually costs less, as it only numbs the area being operated on and does not require the same medical monitoring as being put under with a general anaesthetic. Very few clinics, however, offer a local anaesthetic for breast augmentation.

Highly experienced plastic surgeons tend to charge more for their services. On the other hand, the surgeon's skill often leads to better results, a lower risk of complications and a higher standard of care.
