How to do it

To clean your eyes after blepharoplasty, follow these steps:

• Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser that is gentle and safe for sensitive skin
• Avoid direct contact with the incisions and take care not to rub or press on the surgical area.
• Use clean, soft cloths or cotton buds and gently dab the area with sterile saline solution
• Rinse with lukewarm water – avoid hot water, which can irritate the skin
• Gently pat your face dry with a clean towel and avoid harsh movements.

Timeline

Days 1-3

During the first few days after surgery you should avoid washing around your eyes. Use sterile saline solution and clean cotton buds instead to dab gently around the eyes if needed. This helps to keep the area clean without disturbing the incisions.

Day 5 onwards

From day 5 onwards you can start washing gently with water. Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and avoid getting soap directly in your eyes. Be very careful not to disturb the healing tissue.

2 weeks

Two weeks after surgery you should be able to return to your normal cleansing routine, but continue to be careful around the surgical area. By this point most of the swelling and bruising should have settled.
