How should you sleep after Botox?

Recommended sleeping positions
To minimise pressure on the treated areas after Botox you should ideally sleep on your back, although sleeping on your side after Botox also works. You should avoid lying on your stomach during the first night after the treatment.
Sleeping on your back after Botox
The general recommendation when it is time to sleep after Botox is to lie on your back. This takes any pressure off your face and reduces the risk of affecting the treated areas. Use a comfortable pillow to support your neck and keep this position all night.
Sleeping on your side after Botox
If you find it hard to sleep on your back, the next best option is to sleep on your side. You should, however, avoid putting direct pressure on the areas that have been treated with Botox. You can place a pillow next to you to stop you rolling onto your face during the night.
Avoid lying down for the first 4 hours
After a treatment with Botox it is important to keep your head upright for at least four hours. Lying down straight afterwards can in some cases cause the fluid to move slightly under the skin, which in turn can affect the precision of the result. To minimise the risk of the product spreading to areas where it is not intended to work, you should therefore avoid resting in a lying position during the initial hours after the treatment.
If you do need to rest, there are a few tricks you can use to find a resting position that does not involve lying down after Botox.
- Settle into a reclining chair with support for your back and neck
- Prop yourself up with pillows in bed so that you are in a half-sitting position
- Sit in a comfortable armchair or sofa with your feet up
